The Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra is a sacred site closely associated with the names of many notable figures in Ukrainian history. Among them are numerous distinguished and accomplished individuals who can be described as knights.
They were donors to the monastery, promoted the development of culture, education, and the arts, and helped build the Lavra. Among them were also those who themselves performed ascetic feats.
For example, the uncrowned kings of Ukraine—the Ostrogski princes: ascetics, warriors, and patrons of the arts—or the famous Ilya Muromets (Morovlyanin).
The vast territory of the National Preserve “Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra” features many interesting sites and exhibits related to the military: these include original historical weapons, defensive structures, and more.
